Past projects

IBC Carbon (Academy of Finland)
The IBC-CARBON project aims to integrate biodiversity conservation and carbon sequestration within forest ecosystems in Finland, addressing the challenges posed by climate change and the transition to a bio-based economy. The project is led by a multidisciplinary team from the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), University of Helsinki (UHel), and University of Eastern Finland (UEF).
Forest Carbon Monitoring (ESA)
The Forest Carbon Monitoring project is developing and implementing a set of tools for reliable and cost-efficient monitoring of forest carbon stock based on satellite remote sensing approaches supported by in-situ datasets.
H2020 ForestNavigator (EU)
The ForestNavigator project aims to support EU and national policy makers with robust policy pathways aligned with medium (2030) and long-term (2050) climate goals. ForestNavigator integrates novel biophysical and economic modelling tools to develop a comprehensive analytical framework for forest sector mitigation pathways assessment. This framework, efficiently integrated in a Policy Modelling Toolbox systematically that accounts for climate change, socioeconomic and environmental impacts and relies on near-real time data from advanced monitoring systems. ForestNavigator maximizes its policy relevance by means of a decision-making platform hosting key stakeholders and the ForestNavigator Portal, a web-based visualisation and engagement interface.
